The Heroes Here are the top drones for beginners that I personally recommend.
Getting a drone for the first time is a pretty awesome experience.

Fast-forward about later and here we are today, in a world where little palm sized quad copters can maneuver in any direction they want, fly faster than you can run, and even record video.
Before talking about each drone individually, you should know that there are other drones out there, all with similar prices, but these are the most popular, and my personal favorites.
All three of these drones are very fast and agile (unlike most co-axle helicopters), so they can be a bit challenging to fly at first. But once you learn how to properly fly one of these with confidence, you should be able to fly almost any quad copter (including bigger and more advanced models like the DJI Phantom 3).

Hubsan X4

The Hubsan X4 is a great little quadcopter. It's a bit bigger than the Proto X, making it much easier to see when flying far away. Another feature is with the X4 is the removable battery. Unlike the Proto X, you can remove the battery from the Hubsan X4 without having to take the cover off, making it much easier to change the batteries out.
All of these drones have spare parts available, but the Hubsan has an optional propeller guard to help keep the motors and props from breaking. You can even buy a set of bigger batteries that will provide more flight time, and an upgrade charger for charging up to 4 batteries at once.

Estes Proto X

The first contender is the Proto X from Estes. The Proto X is the worlds smallest commercially available quadcopter on the market. It's a great little drone to fly around and annoy your dogs and cats with. The best part about the Proto X is that it comes with everything you need to fly for only $28.99 USD, making it one of the cheapest drones you can buy.
One downside about the Proto X is that the battery is pretty hard to remove. So if your planning on buying more batteries for continuous flying, then the Hubsan will be a better option. Over all, I think that the Proto X is a great stocking stuffer or birthday gift. It's fun to fly, but if it breaks after a month it's cheap enough to replace.
